The Green Ambassadors Solar Loan Initiative (SLI)
Tackles energy poverty on Kituufu Island through a self-sustaining revolving fund — structuring solar energy as a productive economic asset across household, fisheries, and institutional tiers.
Targeted at Kituufu Island (Lake Victoria, Wakiso District), the Solar Loan Initiative (SLI) tackles energy poverty by setting up a self-sustaining revolving fund. It structures solar energy as a productive economic asset rather than an expense, redirecting capital normally spent on biomass toward micro-installments for solar systems.
Three tiers
- Household Tier: Providing small-scale solar kits (LED bulbs, radios, phone charging) to eliminate kerosene fire hazards and indoor air pollution.
- Business / Fisheries Tier ("Blue Economy"): Supplying high-capacity solar systems with deep-cycle batteries and specialized DC-powered refrigeration to eliminate post-harvest losses in the fishing industry.
- Institutional Tier: Installing larger arrays for local clinics and schools to support 24-hour medical care and evening adult literacy.
