The Kimmi Restoration Campaign
A holistic community-led ecological intervention on Kimi Island — home to ~5,500 residents facing severe structural and health hardships following a devastating fire.
The Kimmi Restoration Campaign is a holistic, community-led ecological intervention on Kimi Island (Lake Victoria) — home to approximately 5,500 residents facing severe structural and health hardships following a devastating fire. This active program focuses on environmental conservation, clean energy, and public health.
Key milestones
- Solar clinic power: Designing and installing heavy solar arrays near the community health clinic to power medical refrigeration for essential vaccines and medicines.
- Autarkic solar lights: Distributing clean, off-grid solar lights to local students and vulnerable families to displace dangerous, toxic kerosene and petroleum lamps.
- Public hygiene & food security: Constructing public hygiene restrooms near local schools and clinics, and establishing localized community gardens to promote food security and reduce mainland dependency.
- Vocational empowerment: Empowering local single mothers and youth through practical workshops in making sustainable bar soaps, Vaseline, and reusable sanitary towels to spark eco-friendly livelihoods.
Every shilling donated is invested directly into these tangible, life-changing outcomes on the island.
