The Green Heritage Schools Initiative

Living Laboratories in partner schools blending climate action with cultural stewardship — anchored by three strategic pillars.

Launched in February 2026, the Green Heritage Schools Initiative establishes "Living Laboratories" in partner schools to blend climate action with cultural stewardship. Anchored by three strategic pillars:

Pillar 1 — Center for Heritage & Culture

Institutionalizing the Ekisakate model as a lifestyle to preserve identity. Includes teaching traditional etiquette (Obuntubulamu), mother-tongue storytelling, workshops on wearing traditional attire (Gomesi / Kanzu), and educating students on family lineages and the conservation history behind tribal totems.

Pillar 2 — Center for Climate & Food Security

Transforming school compounds through the One Student, One Tree campaign (planting indigenous tree perimeters) and the Urban Basket Project (training students in vertical "sack mound" gardening, zero-waste composting, and student-managed poultry coops).

Pillar 3 — The Green Digital Nexus

A student-led media network connecting participating schools. Features:

  • The Green Voice podcast for cross-regional discussions.
  • Green Heritage TV on YouTube for virtual garden tours and tutorials.
  • Dedicated social platforms (TikTok, Instagram, X) making farming and heritage engaging for the younger generation.
